BASEBALL: Tuesday's roundup

MERCERSBURG >> Shippensburg jumped on James Buchanan for six runs in the top of the first inning and used that big lead to take a 10-0 Mid Penn Colonial Division baseball victory over the Rockets on Tuesday afternoon.

Cordell Shannon did the rest, holding JB (3-6, 1-4 MPC) to just a pair hits, by Zach Vosburg and Kelby Ramsey. Shannon walked two and fanned four.

JB coach Scott Folmar said, "A couple of mental errors hurt us and gave them two or three extra outs in the first inning. And you can't do that against a good team playing well like they are. Against Shannon we didn't hit more than one or two balls hard. He was throwing strikes and getting ahead in the count."

For the Greyhounds (8-3, 4-1 MPC), leadoff batter Cole Friese had a solid day, going 3-for-3, with three runs scored, two runs knocked in and three stolen bases.

Daulton Brenize was 2-for-4 and with a pair of RBIs and Nick Jacoby went 2-for-4 with a double.

BIG SPRING 8, WAYNESBORO 1 >> Waynesboro fell for the fourth time in five games, getting Big Spring early and never catching up in a Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

"We're losing our confidence by making errors early; we're just not playing well on defense," Indian coach Greg Chandler said. :And we we get behind, we're not hitting enough to come back."

Sawyer Duffy had two of the five hits for Boro (4-7, 2-3 MPC).
