F-F H.S. Highlights: Trojans blank Carlisle

A three-game losing streak for Chambersburg's field hockey team came to an end Wednesday night.

Despite Carlisle earning four penalty corner opportunities, the Lady Trojans fended off all of those and earned a 3-0 victory in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action.

Madison Schmus started the scoring for the Trojans (5-5, 2-5 MPC) with a goal assisted by Rachel Dusman late in the first half. Chambersburg seized that momentum and took into the second half with a pair of goals less than seven minutes apart.

"My team showed up to play today," Trojan coach Jen Amsley said. "I felt like Liza (Ernst) and Rachel came to play, and had great supporting casts, in particular my mids, Jordyn Amsley and Morgan Mentzer. Because of injuries, I had Morgan as a mid, and she did great. I was very impressed with her."

Sage Piper scored once, while Schmus added the insurance goal. Dusman was credited with a pair of assists, while Ernst had the helper on Piper's goal.

Both of Schmus' goals came on corners.

Amsley said, "Madison's goals were nice. They were set up, but she executed the corner play and got two goals."

Ari Burke needed just two saves in the cage to earn the shutout. She was helped along by defenders Courtney Kirby and Rylie Culbertson, who were marking one of Carlisle's top players, Emilie Zukowski.

Waynesboro 4, Biglerville 1: For the first time this season, Waynesboro’s field hockey team earned a tally in the win column.

Facing off against Biglerville in a non-league contest, the Maidens came out strong and finished even stronger in a 4-1 victory. Caitlyn Pollock led the way with a pair of goals for ‘Boro (1-9-1), while Valencia Florek also scored for just the second time this season.

Waynesboro iced the victory when Katie Wise netted a goal with just four seconds remaining in the game.
