H.S. Highlights: Flinn, Chambersburg shut down Lions
Baseball game of the day
The Chambersburg baseball team earned a tight 1-0 victory over State College in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division matchup thanks in part to an outstanding game from Cam Flinn on the mound.
Flinn threw a complete game, giving up just four hits.
"He was throwing around the strike zone all day," Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said. "We made them put the ball in play, and we had a clean defensive game."
Chambersburg (2-3, 2-2 MPC) did not commit an error. Manning Brookens hit a double in the fourth, followed by a double by Hunter Brindle to score the lone run for the Trojans.
Softball game of the day
The Forbes Road softball team chipped away at a six-run deficit to beat Tussey Mountain 7-6 in an exciting extra-inning finish in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference victory.
Olivia Hall hit a two-run RBI in the third inning as the Cardinals (2-3, 2-3 SHL/ICC) brought home four runs, while Forbes Road's defense kept Tussey from scoring in the final five innings to forge the comeback. Payton Watkins hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning to secure the win.
“This was a huge win for the girls," Forbes Road coach Pete Hall. "It was one of those nights where each team member found a way to contribute to the win."
Courtney Schoen earned the win, throwing a complete game.

Baseball
Cedar Cliff 9, Waynesboro 7: Waynesboro carried a 6-5 lead heading into the seventh after scoring four runs to overcome a deficit to non-league opponent Cedar Cliff.
The Colts rattled off a three-RBI double after loading the bases, and scored on an error to take a 9-6 lead with Waynesboro up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. The Indians scored on a walk with the bases loaded, but struck out to end the rally.
Kyle Hoffman took the loss for Waynesboro (4-1) in a six-inning performance during which he struck out three.
James Buchanan 12, West Perry 11: Despite trailing 7-1 in the top of the seventh, James Buchanan's bats got hot again for a non-league victory.
The Rockets (3-0) finished with 14 hits, including two singles by Remi Spoonhour, two doubles from Jared Pine and a three-run home run by Dylan Sanders.
"We were down really early, so for those guys to bounce back was a great show of resilience by the team," JB coach Dave Sanchez said. "That big home run from Sanders got us right back in the game, and (Zach) Monniger came in and did a really good job of keeping them off balance."
Southern Huntingdon 7, Fannett-Metal 2: The Tigers (0-5, 0-5 SHL, 0-4 ICC) stranded eight runners in scoring position in a SHL/ICC loss to Southern Huntingdon, scoring their only two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cole Funk hit an RBI triple in the final frame to bring home Chris Rosenberry, then Funk came home on a fielder's choice.
Forbes Road 11, Tussey Mountain 1: Grayson Hall pitched five innings for the Cardinals (4-1, 4-1 SHL/ICC) to pick up a win over Tussey Mountain in a SHL/ICC game. Brycen Hohman, Matt Brown and Lane Kendall each had two hits.
Softball
Southern Fulton 12, McConnellsburg 2 (F/5): Cheyenne Miller earned her first varsity win for the Indians. Lakyn Morton, Jessie Covalt and Janelle Appel each hit doubles for Southern Fulton (1-3, 1-3 SHL, 1-3 ICC).
Girls soccer
Cumberland Valley Christian 4, Calvary Christian Academy 0: The Blazers set the tone early against Calvary in an MDCC clash thanks to a goal by Tori Stouffer in the first 23 seconds of play. Kaitlin Provard assisted the first two CVC goals, and then scored one of her own in the 52nd minute. Maddie Keck had three saves for the Blazers (1-2, 1-2MDCC).
"Scoring early was a big confidence boost for our team," Cumberland Valley Christian coach Paul Lundy said. "Kaitlin Provard is rounding into form and is really helping our attack from the left wing spot."
Boys Tennis
Cedar Cliff 4, Chambersburg 1: Chambersburg's No. 2 doubles team of Derek Briggs and Clark Miller earned the Trojans' only win of the day, with a 6-0 sweep of Anthony Cline and P.J. Beauduy. Chambersburg is 2-3 (1-1 MPC).
