ROCKETS WIN THE DAY

James Buchanan swept the competition in three different sports Friday, with the softball team earning the largest margin of victory with a 19-0 win over Biglerville in five innings. The baseball team followed with a 15-0 defeat of the Canners in five innings.

The boys tennis team continued its undefeated run with a 5-0 win over Middletown in a Mid Penn Colonial Division match.

Taryn Miller led the Lady Rockets (2-0) by going 5-for-5 with two home runs and a double in James Buchanan's 18-hit performance over Biglerville. Jenna Mongold threw a perfect game through four innings but a single to center spoiled the no-hitter. She also had a 3-for-5 performance at the plate including a double, and she stole a base.

"Freshmen had big days for JB," James Buchanan softball coach Troy Pittman said. "Jenna Mongold picked up her first varsity win ... Maria Burkett was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Harley Rife had a triple."

The baseball team claimed victory in five innings in its season opener, led by the Spoonhour brothers on the mound and at the plate. Remi Spoonhour earned the win and also hit a triple, while Hunter Spoonhour hit a double for the Rockets. Toby Sowers smacked a home run.

The tennis team (8-0, 4-0 MPC) swept Middletown in the Rocket's fourth 5-0 win this season, with nearly every player earning straight-set victories. Chance Wishard overcame a tiebreaker loss in the second set and came back to win the third 6-4 in No. 1 singles.

SHALOM SOPHOMORE SHINES

Brooke Emge netted a hat trick to help Shalom Christian’s girls soccer team get back on track with a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference shutout of Heritage Academy.

After a scoreless first half, the Flames scored five times after the break to claim a 5-0 victory. All five of those goals came within the first 20 minutes of the second half.

“Heritage played us hard tonight, and Mikaylah Hoy (forward) really pressured our players and especially our defensive line,” Shalom coach Bill Poe said. “Up front, our forwards are playing strong; Lexy (Poe) has scored eight and Brooke has six goals in three league games this week.”

Poe had a pair of goals and one assist for the Flames (2-1, 2-1 MDCC). Kylie Eby and Caley Eyler combined with five saves in net.

BASEBALL

Heritage 10, Shalom 5: Shalom had four hits and drew seven walks, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Heritage in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game. Colby Maun led the Flames (0-3, 0-3 MDCC) with a pair of RBIs.
