Mercersburg squash takes tourney win

The Mercersburg Academy boys squash handed St. Anne's-Belfield a 9-0 shutout in the first round of the St. Paul's Squash Tournament in Baltimore last weekend.

The Blue Storm (3-0) took on Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival, Blair in the second round, upending the Buccaneers 8-1. Gabby Fraser rallied back after a 2-0 deficit to win her match. Mercersburg took on host St. Paul's in the final round of the tournament, taking a 6-3 victory.

"These guys showed a lot of tenacity and determination especially in the last and hardest match against St. Paul's," Mercersburg coach Chip Vink said. "Blair did not have several of their top players so they will be a more formidable opponent the next time we play them. Nevertheless, it is a good feeling to get the first three matches of the season in the win column."

Illia Presman and Archie Levis finished with three wins and no losses without losing a game in the tournament. Fraser, Saaman Ghodis and Matthey Levy were also undefeated, and Kionne Hendrickson, Dylan Hoang, John Huang and Ryan Klaff went 2-1.
