Poll: YAIAA girls' Athlete of the Week | Nov. 9-Nov. 14

The Susquehannock girls’ soccer team saw its magical run come to an end Saturday in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class AA tournament.

The Warriors fell to Mercyhurst Prep on penalty kicks in the tournament contest — the two teams entered the PK session tied 0-0.

Regardless, it was an incredible run for the Warriors. The team advanced to the semifinals of the District 3 Class AA tournament as the No. 5 seed, then beat previously undefeated Central High School in the first round of the PIAA tournament. Susquehannock topped Central 2-1 in overtime on an Emily Landis goal with 8:08 to go.

Saturday wasn’t festive for YAIAA girls’ volleyball teams, as three lost in the quarterfinals of their respective PIAA tournaments.

Central York fell to Cumberland Valley 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-20) in the Class AAA tournament, Delone Catholic was swept by Villa Maria Academy 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18) and York Catholic lost 3-0 as well against North Star (25-22, 25-15, 25-21).

With that being said, all three teams had terrific seasons. York Catholic rallied to win a District 3 Class A championship and then went on to beat Blue Ridge 4-1 in the opening round of the PIAA tournament.

Delone Catholic’s track record speaks for itself — a past state champion that’s consistently at the top of the standings, and held a 21-2 record this season.

And Central York was also sensational — a 19-2 overall mark and 12-0 record in YAIAA Division I.

Also in girls’ soccer, York Catholic lost to Warrior Run, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class A tournament bracket. York Catholic ended its season with a 15-5 record and advanced through the first round of the PIAA tourney with a 4-1 win over Lakeland.
