Poll: YAIAA boys' Athlete of the Week | Oct. 26-Nov. 1

It was quite the year for Gus Minkin, the Central York senior golfer who took home a ton of hardware in 2015.

Minkin won a YAIAA championship, a District 3 title and then won the Regional tournament as well. This past week, he finished fifth in the PIAA state competition after firing a two-day score of 150 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

Minkin was in the hunt going into the second and final day of the tournament, sitting just two strokes off the lead. He then took the lead on the final day at one point. But a triple-bogey on hole No. 9 and a double bogey on No. 10 ultimately hurt Minkin’s chances of taking home the crown.

No worries though. The senior had a standout season and and a top-five finish is nothing to be ashamed of in his position.

He was joined by teammates Joe Parrini, who finished ninth overall in the tournament following a two-day score of 154.

Also joining the two Central York Panthers on the leaderboard were two Eastern York Golden Knights: Kevin Crumbling finished tied for 15th place with a two-day score of 158. And Andrew Davis tied for 24th place with a two-day total of 163.

Vote for Minkin or any of our other nominees for this week’s Athlete of the Week poll, which closes Monday at 5 p.m.:
