Poll: YAIAA football Athlete of the Week | Oct. 19-Oct. 25

Wide receivers ruled the night Friday in YAIAA football.

Well, not entirely. But the position certainly had some primetime performers to choose from for this week’s Athlete of the Week poll.

We’ll start at Northeastern, where David Ankney shined with a three-catch 140-yard performance in the Bobcats’ 30-0 road win at Spring Grove. Ankney had scoring grabs of 73 and 56 yards on the evening. The second one was a circus grab: the ball was tipped by two Spring Grove defensive backs and Ankney - who was standing at the 13-yard line - grabbed the deflection on the run one-handed at the 13-yard line and raced into the end zone to give the Bobcats a 20-0 lead in the second quarter.

York Suburban wide receiver Colin Mailman does what he does virtually every week - cash in with a big game. Mailman’s four-catch, 161-yard, three-touchdown evening (all three TDs came in the first half) pushed the Trojans to a 55-27 victory over undermanned Dover.

On to Dallastown, where Jawaun McMillian hauled in six catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns of his own as the Wildcats beat New Oxford 43-13. New Oxford actually took a 7-0 lead in the game, but Dallastown scored 43 unanswered points to remain undefeated with an 8-0 record.

And at Bermudian Springs, Quinton Nace caught a touchdown with 15 seconds remaining as the Eagles beat York Catholic 20-17 for their fourth-straight victory.
