Poll: YAIAA girls' Athlete of the Week | Oct. 5-Oct. 11

What a week. There were so many milestones, key games and inspiring gestures that it was close to impossible to narrow down the list of this week's Athlete of the Week nominees.

Two soccer players, York Catholic's Liz Johnson and Fairfield's Hannah Logue, each reached significant career scoring marks ... Central York's Julianne Lee -- only a sophomore -- won her second postseason golf title at Saturday's District 3 Class AAA tourney. ... New Oxford field hockey avenged an early season loss by handing Dallastown its first loss of the season ... Susquehannock earned a key victory against York Suburban in the Division II volleyball race. (Warriors and Trojans meet again on Oct. 19, which could very well be for all the marbles.)

There were also two particularly touching moments on the pitch. Spring Grove held a "blackout" game for melanoma awareness. Senior Victoria Swiger has battled the disease twice since the age of 13. Biglerville's girls' soccer team paid its respects to former Canner Meghan McKinney, who died in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 283.
