Poll: YAIAA football Athlete of the Week | Sept. 14-Sept. 20

Three YAIAA football teams stand at 3-0 on the season - the Dallastown Wildcats, Hanover Nighthawks and Northeastern Bobcats.

At Dallastown, it’s been an impressive showing. The team has pitched back-to-back shutouts, most recently a 35-0 win over Penn Manor. The Wildcats have long been a contender under Kevin Myers, and this year looks no different. The team will open their YAIAA Division I schedule next week against Spring Grove, and looks to continue its winning ways.

In Hanover, it’s been a surprising showing. If for no other reason the Nighthawks won four games over the past four seasons entering this year. And while the first two weeks saw them roll Columbia and Kennard-Dale, Friday’s 13-6 win over previously unbeaten Eastern York was stout. The Golden Knights entered the game with a 2-0 record of their own and a solid defense to back them up, but it was the Nighthawks who won playing a physical brand of football.

And at Northeastern, it’s a welcomed start. The team sports a top-tier rushing attack, and hung on to beat a suprisingly tough Susquehannock team on Friday. With that being said, it was two wide receivers that shined in this contest - Northeastern’s David Ankney (three catches, 107 yard and a touchdown) and Susquehannock’s Nick Tannura (eight catches, 144 yards and two touchdowns). Still, Ankney made a key grab down the stretch to help preserve the team's 3-0 start to the season.
