Several YAIAA graduates will flashback to the feel of Friday night football in late September when Lebanon Valley College announced that its Sept. 26 game at Widener University has been moved, up a day because of logistical concerns surrounding Pope Francis' anticipated visit to the Philadelphia area.
The Flying Dutchmen, roster includes South Western grads Ryan Dotson, Tyler Sterner, Brandon McMinn, and Bret Hertzog; John Salcedo and Steven Salcedo of York Suburban, Ryan Vaughn from Littlestown, along with West York alums Logan Stover and Ian Lichty.
Kickoff for the Middle Atlantic Conference clash is now set for 7 p.m. on Spet. 25, giving the players a one-week return to Friday night football.
The change is actually one of many scheduling adjustments being made at universities in the metro area. Temple University, Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University, the Community College of Philadelphia, and Rutgers-Camden have all either closed their campuses or asked instructors to hold classes online or reschedule them.
Even the NFL is helping out with scheduling. Commissioner Roger Goodell submitted a request that the Philadelphia Eagles not play at home on Sunday, Sept. 27 because of traffic concerns. The request was granted and the Eagles will play the Jets in New York that day instead.
