YAIAA Football Schedule: By The Numbers

While putting together the YAIAA football schedule for our GameTimePA preview (It’s going to be GREAT) I came across a myriad of interesting matchups, which was tackled last week on the blog.

While sifting through all 154 matchups looking for the best of the best, I came across some interesting figures, and also found myself asking questions such as, “I wonder how many Berks County teams are on the schedule?” Or even, “I wonder who has the hardest schedule this season? What about the worst?” So, I decided to dive deep into the YAIAA schedule and found these goodies for you all to enjoy.

Here’s a look at the YAIAA football schedule by the numbers:

1: Current (as of 7/23) unnamed opponent. Fairfield currently has an opening in week 3 after their usual week 3 opponent did not field a varsity team and the replacement was double booked. A solution is nearly complete as Fairfield has a verbal agreement with Silver Oaks Academy located in Keymar, Maryland. Which is a great segue to the next number...

1: Official out-of-state opponents. Delone Catholic will host Union City from Tennessee in Week 3 in a matchup that is sure to draw interest.

2: Programs with only YAIAA teams on their schedule. New Oxford and Northeastern’s 3 non-divisional opponents are all from either Division II or III.

3: Games played by Waynesboro against YAIAA teams, as the Indians face Kennard-Dale, Biglerville and Gettysburg to open the season.

4: Non-District 3 PIAA opponents.

5: Games played against Berks County opponents.

6: Saturday games. The only one not involving a York County Tech home game is West York traveling to Delaware Valley Charter in Week 6

7: Games Fairfield plays within the Adams County borders. Games at York Catholic, York County Tech and likely Silver Oaks Academy are the only times the Green Knights venture outside Adams county.

8: Out-of-league teams that face two YAIAA teams. Boiling Springs, Columbia, Cumberland Valley, James Buchanan, Lancaster Catholic, Reading, Red Land and Shippensburg each have two YAIAA teams on their schedule.

9: Total games that aren’t played at the traditional 7 p.m. Friday time slot. Six of those occur on a Saturday and the other three are Friday night South Western home dates (which start at 7:30).

10: YAIAA foes on Northeastern’s and New Oxford’s schedules.

11: Opponents from the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

15: Week 1 matchups with YAIAA teams facing non-league foes.

19: Total games in Week 1.

22: Games played against teams from the Mid-Penn League.

29: 2014 non-divisional victories by opponents on West York’s 2015 schedule, by far the most difficult out of league schedule in the YAIAA.

35: 2014 victories by opponents on Eastern York’s 2015 schedule, making it the easiest in the YAIAA.

60: 2014 victories by opponents on New Oxford’s 2015 schedule, making it the hardest in the YAIAA.
