Poll: YAIAA girls' Athlete of the Week | May 25-May 30

It was history in the making for the Delone Catholic softball team, which won its first district softball title since 1999 with a 10-3 win over Kutztown in the District 3 Class AA championship on Thursday.

Kutztown, seeded No. 2 in the tournament bracket, actually took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on No. 1-seeded Delone. It was short lived, however, as the Squirettes scored five in their half of the first and another three in the third, blowing the game open.

Earlier in the week, Delone Catholic clinched a state playoff berth by topping Susquenita, 4-1, in the District 3 Class AA softball semifinals.

Delone will now face Philadelphia Charter Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at York College in the opening round of the PIAA tournament.

In girls’ lacrosse, Kennard-Dale’s season came to a close following a 17-7 loss to Great Valley in the opening round of the PIAA tournament on Wednesday.
