The Morgan Day conundrum

During the past week we covered outstanding Kennard-Dale lacrosse star Morgan Day as she broke the PIAA record for career goals, when she scored 10 times against New Oxford, topping the mark of 430 set last year by West Chester Henderson's Katie O'Donnell. Day finished the contest with 432 goals - and counting - for her incredible career.

We did some research and found a story from April of 2014 confirming this information.

However ...

We received a comment on GameTimePA.com that informed us that 2014 Manheim Township grad Molly Hendricks scored 432 goals during her career with the Blue Streaks, before heading to the University of North Carolina.

That set the wheels in motion. Which record is correct? I sent an email to Manheim Township coach Mark Pinkerton, who confirmed that Hendricks did indeed score 432 goals in high school.

Looking for further information, I have reached out to the US Lacrosse, the national federation, although I am not sure if they will be able to shed any light on this.

So, while there may be a little bit of a question, we know this for sure: Morgan Day is at least tied for having the most career goals in Pennsylvania high school girls lacrosse history.

We also know that on Tuesday this will almost assuredly be a moot point as Day will likely score at least one (ok, probably several) goals in the YAIAA girls lacrosse tournament semifinal.

She will likely be challenging the national high school record at some point over the next few weeks before heading off to St. Francis University ... Sigh.
