PIAA Wrestling Rapid Reaction: 5 semifinals to watch in Class AA

With the PIAA wrestling class AA field narrowed down to the final 8 medalists, let's take a look at five semifinals to watch.

Each matchup will include brief analysis as well as a prediction.

1. 106 pounds: Jefferson-Morgan's Gavin Teasdale vs. Boiling Springs Jalin Hankerson. Teasdale had a thriller this morning, downing Southern Columbia's Jaret Lane, 12-10 in overtime while Hankerson had to rally to take down Brookville's Gavin Park, 6-5. Both are great on their feat. Prediction: Teasale, 4-1.

2. 120 pounds: Bishop McDevitt's John Pipa vs. Reynolds' Cole Matthews. Pipa was a finalist last year and Cole Matthews shocked the crowd this morning with a pin on Huntingdon's Collin Glorioso after trailing 3-1. Pipa has that big match experience while Matthews is a freshman and has the knack for a shocking win. Prediction: Pipa, 5-2.

3. 152 pounds: Pius X Michael Comunale vs. South Park's Jake Wentzel. The duo come into the contest with a combined record of 71-1 with Comunale having an unbeaten record. Should be an entertaining contest. Prediction: Wentzel, 7-4.

4. 182 pounds: Bermudian Springs' Colton Dull vs. Penns Valley's Corey Hazel.

The two enter the bout with identical 37-1 records on the season. Dull has won his first two bouts by a combined 10-1 score while Hazel has been on the mat a total of 3:33 winning by tech fall in the first round then pinning his second round foe. Prediction: Dull, 2-1.

5. 220 pounds: West Branch's Reynold Maines vs. Cambridge Springs' Zach Stafford. Maines is one of the best pound-for-pound wrestlers at this tournament and Stafford pulled off an impressive upset, knocking off Wyalusing's Dylan Otis, 3-1. Prediction: Maines, 2nd period fall.
