Make that 10-straight District 3 Class AA championships for the York Catholic girls’ basketball team.

Not that it came easy.

The Irish first had to fight through Trinity, which was no small task. The Shamrocks have competed for a district title with York Catholic before, and in this year’s semisfinals they gave the Irish all they could handle in a 36-32 York Catholic victory.

Then it was on to the title game, where the Fighting Irish needed overtime to top No. 3-seeded Camp Hill at Giant Center in Hershey.

It was a wild weekend of high school girls’ basketball, if for no other reason than one streak continued (York Catholic’s run in districts) while another came to an end.

That would be West York’s winning streak, as the Bulldogs began the year 27-0 before falling to Greencastle-Antrim, 42-40, in the District 3 Class AAA semifinals. It was a surprise, simply because West York has had such a fantastic run. That, and they blew out the Blue Devils in a pre-season scrimmage - with that being said, that game was without three of Greencastle-Antrim’s top players, and during an entirely different time of year.

Either way, each team qualified for the PIAA tournament.

And let’s not forget about the York Suburban girls' swim team, which won the District 3 Class AA championships this past weekend in Mechanicsburg. Big props to the Trojans on their victory.

With that, our YAIAA Athletes of the Week nominations:
