When Susquehannock and Gettysburg got together for Saturday night's weather-delayed swim meet, which concluded the YAIAA regular season, it was one of the most unusual I have ever witnessed - and I have been to a lot of swim meets.

A Gettysburg win in the boys' meet would make for a three-way tie with Susquehannock and York Suburban for the Division II championship. However, a Susquehannock win - or tie - would the school it's first team swimming title.

It got crazy from there.

Gettysburg led the boys' meet throughout, until the 200 free relay when Susquehannock took first and second place, forging a 63-61 lead. However, Gettysburg took first and second in the next race, the 100 backstroke, to go back up, 71-69.

Then came the strange events. It looked like Gettysburg's Logan Hyde was going to win the 100 breaststroke, although Susquehannock's Gibby Porter was closing the gap. Both touched the wall at nearly the same time, although Gettysburg swimmers and fans understandably thought that Hyde came in first.

In fact, so did Porter, as this video shows. Gettysburg went on to win the 400 free relay, with Susky taking second and third.

However, the officials waited for some time hashing over things until it was determined that Porter (1:08.48) managed to touch out Hyde (1:08.89). The .41 margin gave Susquehannock enough points to take a 79-77 lead. But, most of us didn't know that until after the meet was finished.

After the final race and the handshake line had already taken place, the Shrewsbury YMCA announcer said the meet finished in an 85-all tie, which meant that Susquehannock's league record was 4-0-1, giving those Warriors (not to be confused with the Gettysburg Warriors) the division title outright.

Like I said, it was crazy ... and fantastic.
