Poll: YAIAA boys' Athlete of the Week | Jan. 5-Jan. 10

This past week in local high school basketball was marred by an unfortunate incident: the postgame fight between William Penn and Harrisburg high schools, following the Bearcats' 69-66 win on Monday night.

The fracas - which resulted in suspensions for four players total - overshadowed what was a big win for William Penn. The most recent set of District 3 Class AAAA Boys Basketball Power Rankings had the Bearcats ranked No. 7 and the Cougars No. 6.

While it was an ugly post-game scene, it doesn’t figure to affect the Bearcats all that much when they re-take the court. While Jahaire Wilson will miss two games and C.J. Boxley will likely miss one, William Penn faces South Western and then York Catholic. In turn, wins should follow.

With that being said, Harrisburg figures to be more affected by the losses of Damien Barber and Tariq Thomas for two games apiece. After a trip to Mifflin County on Wednesday, the Cougars will then host PIAA power Chester on Saturday.

It’s also that time of week again, when we unveil our Athlete of the Week candidates. Vote away in our contest:
