In need of a holiday sports story? Check out GameTimePA reporter Steve Navaroli's feature last week on Red Lion swimmer Courtney Schaefer.

Courtney, one of the area’s top athletes, lost her sister Danielle six year ago. Danielle, who was also a Red Lion swimmer, was a high school senior when she passed away.

Dealing with the loss of a sister at 12 years old, Courtney persevered and went on to success in the pool with both the Lions and York YMCA team. She qualified for the PIAA championships as a freshman, individually and as a part of a Lions' relay team. She has competed at Y national events.

Courtney recently signed her own letter of intent to swim at an NCAA Division I school, Georgia Southern.

"I definitely followed her footsteps and I want to do this for her," Courtney said of Danielle, as her eyes filled. "I think she is up there looking down and is like, 'Yes!'"
