After week, YAIAA girls' basketball power rankings remain mostly steady

The YAIAA could be in store for another strong girls' basketball season. Five teams are still unbeaten through the first handful of games. The only shakeup in the first set of rankings comes courtesy of York Suburban, which dispatched Northeastern, 57-47, on Friday night.

The Bobcats take a short tumble in our first rankings since the preseason. Here's how the teams break down.

1. Dallastown (4-0, previous ranking: 1) -- The Wildcats' opening weekend performance at Hempfield's tip-off tourney turned heads. Then they edged what looks to be an up-and-coming Central York in overtime.

2. West York (3-0, PR: 2) -- An experienced squad, the Bulldogs haven't missed a beat under first-year coach Darrell Wildasin. The remainder of their 2014 is an interesting one. Trinity visits Monday and Northeastern comes to town Dec. 23. The Bulldogs close the calendar year at York Suburban's holiday tournament.

3. York Catholic (3-0, PR: 4) -- Did you guess a freshman would lead the Irish in scoring after three games? If so, you probably knew about Kate Bauhof, who debuted with 16 points against Trinity in the opener.

4. Delone Catholic (5-0, PR: 5) -- Coach Gerry Eckenrode's squad is hot on the heels of York Catholic, and senior guard Maddie Comly has averaged a YAIAA-best 25.7 points through her first four games.

5. New Oxford (4-0, PR: 6) -- A preseason favorite to many league coaches, the Colonials are a stingy bunch. Coach Mike Sanders' team has given up an average of just 26.0 points. They are beating teams by about 23 points, and Kaelyn Long (16.5 points) has taken on a leading role.

In contention: 6. York Suburban (3-1), 7. Northeastern (3-1), 8. Red Lion (3-2), 9. Central York (2-2), 10. Dover (2-2).
