Week 5 YAIAA football power rankings

The top three remain the same, and they all happen to reside in different divisions among the YAIAA.

Bermudian Springs, Dallastown and West York stay in the top spots of this edition of the YAIAA football power rankings entering Week 5. The tricky part comes in deciphering where teams stand after that. Of note, the biggest drop this week is Northeastern, which suffered a hard 44-17 loss to Central York in its YAIAA Division I debut. The Bobcats own a win against No. 10 York Catholic, but the Irish couldn't be punished for winning Friday night at Delone Catholic -- a last-second win to boot.

1. Bermudian Springs (4-0, last week: 1) -- The Eagles, like Eastern York a week earlier, made a difficult night for Hanover, which gave up 50 or more points for a second straight week. But credit the Nighthawks, who jumped on the scoreboard first before Bermudian went on to a 50-14 win. Eagles coach Jon DeFoe gave a tip of the cap to Hanover QB Kyle Krout for his play.

2. Dallastown (3-1, LW: 2) -- Wildcats coach Kevin Myers said the previous week's 35-3 loss to Penn Manor "woke some people up," and Dallastown responded with a convincing win at Spring Grove. In last week's power rankings, it was suggested the winner of that game would take the No. 2 spot. That held true.

3. West York (3-1, LW: 3) -- Outside of Bermudian Springs, no team has played better for the first four weeks than West York. That includes Dallastown, which earned a 21-20 win at West York in Week 2. The Bulldogs welcomed Eastern York to Division II play on Friday. The biggest head-turner: 227 yards rushing and another 163 passing from quarterback Ross Campbell.

4. Red Lion (2-2, LW: 8) -- A two-point conversion is all that separates Red Lion from a 2-2 record and a 1-3 start. The Lions will certainly take it after escaping Small Field against an 0-4 William Penn squad that has two losses by one point and another by just a touchdown.

5. Dover (2-2, LW: not ranked) -- The Eagles needed Friday's 22-16 win against Gettysburg to open YAIAA Division II play. Dover hurt both physically and mentally. Coach Eric Lam said self-inflicted wounds, such as turnovers against Big Spring, had as much to do with Dover's 1-2 start as the injuries to key players.
