Spring Grove grad Whitney Boeckel earns area honors

Arcadia University junior Whitney Boeckel, a Spring Grove grad, was recently elected to the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly SIDA Academic All Area Team.

The actuarial science and mathematics major posted a 3.85 cumulative grade point average, while earning All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors in five events at the 2014 MAC Championships. Her seven career all-conference performances are the second-most in program history.

She is the first women's swimmer from Arcadia to earn SIDA All-Academic honors, which are selected by the sports information offices at the 28 NCAA Division I, II and III institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Boeckel has had an outstanding career with the Knights, including this season when she was an athletic and academic all-conference selection. Check out a list of her headlines here.

The former Rocket all-star earned first-team All-MAC honors after placing second in the 200 backstroke (2:08.21) and third in the 100 back (59.96) at the 2014 league championship meet. She was also a member of the fifth-place 200 free and sixth-place 400 medley relay teams.

She holds five individual school records (500 and 1,000 free, 100 and 200 back, 200 IM) and is a member of four school-record relays (200, 400 and 800 free, and 400 medley). Seven of those marks were set this season.
