West York to hold 'Paws Playin' for Paws' on April 14

A girls' lacrosse game on Monday, April 14 will benefit the York SPCA when Central York visits West York.

The game is dubbed "Paws Playin' for Paws," to fit the teams' mascots of Bulldogs and Panthers. The endeavor is part of a senior graduation project for a group of West York students. So far, they have raised more than $1,000 and purchased special shirts for the game.

Players will wear the shirts, which sport the "Paws Playin' for Paws" logo and heads of both teams mascots with lacrosse sticks. Additional shirts will be sold for $10.

"We’ve held several bake sales in school and have gone door to door for donations," organizers Amanda Lehman and Kelley Dietz wrote in an email.

On game day, another bake sale will be held. A raffle table with items donated by various people and businesses, plus a 50/50 raffle, will be part of the festivities. The SPCA also will be represented with some of its animals and information about adoption and animal-abuse prevention.

"We will have an area at the event for those who wish to drop off other donations for the SPCA, such as cleaning supplies, dog/cat food, paper towels, blankets, etc.," Lehman and Dietz wrote. "Our goal is to raise awareness about animal abuse, the importance of spaying and neutering your pet and to encourage pet adoption from the SPCA."
