Several former YAIAA standouts coming to town for PSAC swim championships

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) swimming championships will be held at the Graham Aquatic Center at the York YMCA on Newberry Street from Thursday (Feb. 20) through Sunday (Feb. 23) and several former YAIAA swimming stars will be on hand to compete.

Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. each morning with finals beginning at 6 p.m. The only exception is Sunday when the finals are moved up to 5 p.m.

Thursday events include: 1,000 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 medley relay. Friday: 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 400 medley relay. Saturday: 500 free, 100 back, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 800 free relay. Sunday: 1,650 free, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breaststroke, 400 free relay.

West York grad Bradley Strathmeyer, who was named the PSAC Men's Swimmer of the Year last season as a freshman at West Chester, will be on hand to compete in the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. After some early trepidation, he looks forward to being back in the pool where he swam for both the York YMCA and West York.

"It will be neat to have the home-court advantage and swim in the pool I am familiar with," he said. "I will be comfortable, relaxed and swim fast. After thinking about it I realize it is a fast pool and neat to comeback to my hometown and represent West Chester. I am very excited."

Strathmeyer, along with several of his West Chester teammates, remain the favorites in the men's distance swims.

Speaking of favorites, Dallastown alum Julie Brown will be competing in her final PSAC swim meet for Shippensburg and is once again among the favorites in the sprint events. She posted the second fastest time in the 50 free this season, and looks to defend her 2013 PSAC title in the race.

Brown's teammate and fellow Dallastown grad, Jake Dunnigan, enters the weekend after swimming the 10th fastest time in the 200 breaststroke during the season.

Dover sisters, Christina and Aniella Janosky, will be on hand with their Indiana University of PA teammates. Aniella enters with the conference's third-best times in the 100 and 200 butterfly races. Christina has posted the sixth-fastest 500, 1,000 and 1,650 free times this season.
