Spring Grove's David Shaw selected for Big 33

The Big 33 Football Classic opted to change opponents from Ohio to Maryland last year. Fittingly, that's where David Shaw is headed later this year.

Before he does, he will face Maryland's top high school football talent. Shaw, the University of Maryland-bound defensive tackle from Spring Grove, was selected to Pennsylvania's roster for the June 14 game at Hersheypark Stadium. The announcement came Tuesday, and Shaw continues a recent run of York County players to make the all-star squad.

West York center Brody Kern, now at Delaware, made the team last year. South Western graduate Mike Felton, now at Temple, made the team as a defensive back in 2012.

Kern's high school coach, Ron Miller, joins Shaw on the PA team. Miller will serve as an assistant for the team, headed by Eaton High School's Steve Shiffert.

Shaw, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 280 pounds, committed to the Terrapins last June after the school offered him a scholarship earlier in the year. When he moves on to college, he will be joined by a few York County natives, including head coach Randy Edsall (Susquehannock) and offensive tackle Andrew Zeller (Red Lion).
