Latest District 3 Wrestling Power Rankings

South Western helped their case at inclusion in the PIAA District 3 Class AAA wrestling tournament with a 34-27 victory over Spring Grove. The Mustangs came in at 15th in the latest power rankings published this morning.  Deadline for matches is tomorrow.

Milton Hershey sits at 14th, not far ahead of the Mustangs while Hempfield, a loser last night to Manheim Township sits 16th. Also in contention for the final three spots are Lower Dauphin, Red Land and Manheim Township. Red Land knocked Lower Dauphin from the top 16 with a one-point victory last night.

South Western can continue to help their case with a victory tomorrow over Kennard-Dale. Lower Dauphin has a match remaining as well against Mecchanicsburg while Red Land has a match against Middletown. The Mustangs hold an advantage there as the Rams have a better record and higher power ranking than the other two opponents.

Three other YAIAA schools have all but sealed spots in the tournament. New Oxford is the highest coming in this batch at the number 3 spot. The Rockets loss drops them to number 4. Fellow division I foe Red Lion sits safely at number 8. The Lions only losses this year came to the Colonials, Rockets and Mustangs.

Cumberland Valley seemingly has the top spot locked down while Central Dauphin sits at number 2. Both New Oxford and Spring Grove could potentially pass Central Dauphin, depending how calculations work out. In all four teams out of Class AAA will qualify for the PIAA team tournament.

Over in Class AA Boiling Springs maintains the number one spot and likely will remain there while Hamburg is firmly entrenched at number 2. The real battle is for the third spot between current number 3 Northern Lebanon and number 4, YAIAA power Bermudian Springs.

The Eagles victory over Biglerville last night pushed them closer to Northern Lebanon as Bermudian's power ranking is now 0.689958 while Northern Lebanon sits just ahead a 0.692655.  It could all come down to strength of schedule as neither team has a dual remaining before the power ranking deadline.

Holding the third spot is crucial because only two teams qualify from District 3 for the PIAA tournament. If Bermudian Springs stays in 4th they will be forced to meet Boiling Springs in the second round where if they move to 3rd they can avoid the Bubblers until the finals.

Fellow Division II foe Biglerville fell out of the power rankings with the loss to Bermudian. They sit .02 behind current number 8 Bishop McDevitt. The Canners can improve their cause with a victory over AAA foe Eastern York later tonight. The Crusaders do not have a match prior to the deadline.

Delone Catholic sits in 10th .01 behind the Canners.

Final rankings and brackets will be released on Sunday and will be broken down in our YAIAA weekly column.
