Kutztown University freshman Kara Funk, a 2013 Dover grad, was recently honored by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Media organization, by being named to its unsung hero team.

Funk earned the honors with a pair if early-season performances. Her 13 points - eight in the second half - helped the Golden Bears score a 59-58 come-from-behind win over PSAC foe East Stroudsburg. Funk made her only 3-point shot of the game and sank 8-of-11 free throws.

It marked the second time she helped her squad during a comeback, as she dropped 11 points during a Kutztown win over Philadelphia University.

After four games, Funk averages 8.6 points per contest, which is fourth on the team, and she is third in steals with six.

According to the Goldeb Bears' website, the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II institutions East Stroudsburg University and Kutztown University, along with Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College from Division III.
