What to watch: Sept. 30-Oct. 5
The regular seasons are winding down for many fall sports. Here's a few matchups to mark on you calendar:
MONDAY, SEPT. 30
Field hockey
• Susquehannock at West York, 4:15 p.m. -- The Warriors could be in position to clinch Division II, and West York could set up a potential sharing of the title. Kennard-Dale looms in the chase, too.
TUESDAY, OCT. 1
Girls' volleyball
• York Suburban at Northeastern, 7 p.m. -- The Division II frontrunners are set to create some separation in this matchup.
• Central York at South Western, 7 p.m. -- The Panthers are chasing Susquehannock but must get through the Mustangs, who were not far behind either in Division I.
Cross country
• Central York, South Western, Spring Grove at Dallastown, 4:30 p.m. -- This meet is important for several reasons, starting with the presentation of a check to the Murphy family, whose son Sean is recovering from a kindey transplant. As for the competition, Spring Grove, Dallastown and South Western are the top three Division I boys' teams.
Boys' soccer
• Northeastern at York Suburban, 7:30 p.m. -- Both teams entered the weekend as part of a three-team logjam with Susquehannock. Northeastern played host to the Warriors on Saturday.
• York Catholic at Biglerville, 7 p.m. -- The Canners are closing in on a Division III title. York Catholic was one of three schools two games back last week.
Girls' soccer
• Red Lion at Dallastown, 4 p.m. -- In addition to Central York, which also has only one YAIAA loss, the Lions are a hurdle for Dallastown to overcome if it hopes to successfully defend its Division I title. This matchup also will be a "pink game." Both teams sold T-shirts with the proceeds going to the Cancer Patient Help Fund of York. There also is a collection of dry goods that will be donated to the emergency pantry for that same fund.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2
Girls' volleyball
• South Western at Delone Catholic, 7 p.m. -- This inter-divisional YAIAA meeting is a rematch of last year's league tournament final.
Field hockey
• Dallastown at New Oxford, 4:15 p.m. -- The Division I leader meets the No. 3 team in New Oxford.
• Littlestown at Bermudian Springs, 4:15 p.m. -- The Bolts have put together a strong run and will be upset minded vs. the Division III power.
THURSDAY, OCT. 3
Girls' volleyball
• Central York at Susquehannock, 7 p.m. -- Their first meeting went four games at Central and was the Panthers' only Division I loss.
Boys' soccer
• West York at Northeastern, 7:30 p.m. -- Another Division II matchup with potentially big implications on who wins the division and makes the league tournament.
FRIDAY, OCT. 4
Football
• Spring Grove at Central York, 7 p.m. -- For the third time, former Central defensive coordinator Russ Stoner will face mentor Brad Livingston. Last year the Panthers and Rockets shared the Division I title.
• York Suburban at Fairfield, 7 p.m. -- This will be the Green Knights' first home game since their loss to Eastern York. This game will be a good gauge for how much Suburban has improved since its loss to Eastern.
• Dallastown at South Western, 7:30 p.m. -- The Corral should be a mess after these two meet in the trenches.
SATURDAY, OCT. 5
Boys' soccer
• Bermudian Springs at York Catholic, 3 p.m. -- These two have been chasing Biglerville all season.
