What to watch: Sept. 23-28


Mark your calendar for these key YAIAA matchups for the week of Sept. 23-28.

MONDAY, SEPT. 23

Field hockey

• Susquehannock at Bermudian Springs, 4:15 p.m. -- This might be the biggest match on Bermudian Springs' schedule, considering its dominance within Division III. They play host to the Division II leaders.

Girls' volleyball

• York Suburban at Dover, 7 p.m. -- The Trojans have been on a roll to start their season, and the Division II leaders visit one of the contenders from that stout Division I.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 24

Field hockey

• Dallastown at Red Lion, 4:15 p.m. -- The rematch in what is the best part of these neighboring schools' rivalry in the fall shifts to Horn Field.

Boys' soccer

• West York at York Suburban, 7:30 p.m. -- The Trojans get their crack at Division II-leading West York. They trail the Bulldogs by two in the standings, making this a must-win for Suburban to open the second half of the schedule under the lights at home.

Girls' volleyball

• Susquehannock at Dover, 7 p.m. -- The Eagles follow up their test with Suburban by playing host to the Division I leaders, whom they trail by two in the standings.

Cross country

• Biglerville, Dallastown, Eastern York at Delone Catholic, 4:30 p.m. -- The boys' race will include Brady Wilt of Biglerville and Dallastown's Patrick Reilly. On the girls' side, who can catch Kate Mowrey?

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25

Golf

• District 3 Team Qualifier, 1:30 p.m. -- This team event takes place at Briarwood Golf Course.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 26

Boys' soccer

• South Western at West York, 4 p.m. -- The Mustangs are the defending tournament champs and open the week tied with Central atop Division I. Bragging rights are on the line as they visit the Division II frontrunners.

• Central York at Dallastown, 4 p.m. -- A big game for the host Wildcats, who begin the week trailing Central and South Western by a game. The Panthers took their first meeting, 3-0, at Central.

Girls' soccer

• York Catholic at Fairfield, 7 p.m. -- York Catholic took these two teams' first meeting, and that has been the difference in Division III.

Dallastown at Central York, 7 p.m. -- Like the other big matchup of this night, Dallastown's win vs. Central the first time around is the difference in the Division I standings.

Golf

• YAIAA Championship, 11 a.m. -- The boys' and girls' league champs will be decided at Briarwood.

Girls' tennis

• Susquehannock at Spring Grove, 3:30 p.m. -- If Spring Grove wins, it takes the outright Division I team title. If Susquehannock wins, the title could be shared up to three ways with the Warriors and Dallastown.

Girls' volleyball

• South Western at Susquehannock, 7 p.m. -- The Mustangs get their crack at Susquehannock, which will already have had played a big match with Dover earlier in the week.

• West York at York Suburban, 7 p.m. -- This should be separation Thursday in Division II. The Bulldogs and Trojans sit near the top with Northeastern, which plays at Eastern York on this night.

Field hockey

• West York at Kennard-Dale, 4:15 p.m. -- This matchup could prove to be huge as both teams enter the week a game behind Susquehannock in the loss column.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27

Football

• Dallastown at New Oxford, 7 p.m. -- Dallastown gets another Division II foe that is playing well. Last week, it was Dover.

• Littlestown at York Catholic, 7 p.m. -- The Irish upset the Bolts last year. Can they do it again?

• William Penn at West York, 7 p.m. -- Can the Bearcats add to the Bulldogs woes after an 0-4 start?

Boys' soccer

• York Suburban at Dallastown, 4 p.m. -- Last year's Division II champions visit the 2012 Division I champs. Dallastown played to a draw with Suburban rival Susquehannock last week.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28

Football

• Red Lion at Kennard-Dale, 1 p.m. -- Both teams are coming off strong rushing performances in Week 4.

Boys' soccer

• Susquehannock at Northeastern, 7 p.m. -- This could prove to be an elimination game for two teams chasing Division II leader West York. Both enter the week with two league losses.

Girls' volleyball

• Delone Catholic at Trinity, 11 a.m. -- Delone seniors Hannah Lawrence and Cambria Wierman said this match last year was a turning point as they went on to go unbeaten until the state finals.
