Gridiron picks of the week: All knotted up entering Week 4

So much for my prediction that Week 3 would spread the field of our high school football predictors. In fact, with five of our pickers within two wins of each other, it looks like my prediction was as bad as theirs!

Matt Goul continued to pull away from the field, picking wrong on just five Week 3 games. He held a three-game edge after Week 2 and extended that lead to seven games. Matt pulled away thanks to his sweep of the four games where he and Steve Navaroli picked differently. They defended their picks in the GameTimePA podcast last week, but Matt emerged victorious thanks to wins from Penn Manor, Lampeter-Strasburg, York Suburban and Shippensburg.

Despite finishing the week with a .500 accuracy rate, Steve remains in second place. But now he's got company with Lyzz Jones, as both are tied at 38-17 overall records.

Tom Sixeas and Mike Rubin had the second-best Week 3, getting just six picks wrong. Tom closed within one win of Lyzz and Steve, along with Daniel Paulling. Mike Rubin is just one game behind Daniel and Tom.

Lyzz and Mike both put their faith in a pair of traditional underdogs -- Fairfield and Susquehannock. The Green Knights continued their surprising run, but the Warriors fell, washing out a potential gain for Lyzz and Mike. Lyzz did pick up a win as the only one to pick Hempfield to knock off Central York, but her incorrect pick of South Western vs. Central Dauphin washed out the Hempfield pick.

All of our pickers were surprised by Dover's win against Red Land, as well as Kennard-Dale's win against East Pennsboro.

Predicting Week 4: Check out this week's predictions on the right. There's a lot of overall consensus with just a handful of outliers, so this week I predict not much change in the overall standings.

Matt's pick of Gettysburg over Greencastle could help the field catch him. Meanwhile, Lyzz and Steve made the exact same predictions except Big Spring at Northern York, so one of them will pull ahead of the other.

Mike Rubin has a chance to gain some ground with his lone-wolf picks of Red Lion over West York and Susquehannock over Central York.
