Hanover will dedicate new field hockey scoreboard Sept. 16

Hanover will hold a dedication ceremony Monday, Sept. 16 for its new field hockey scoreboard. The dedication, which will take place at 4 p.m., will be followed by the Nighthawks' game vs. Delone Catholic.

The field is located between Hanover High School and its middle school. This event is the culmination of the first phase of the Hanover Athletic Booster Club's project to add electronic scoreboards to the field hockey and baseball fields. The scoreboards will be mounted on the same support structure installed between their neighboring fields.

The overall cost of this project is estimated to be more than $16,000. So far, $12,000 has been raised. The primary sponsors of the field hockey scoreboard are the HABC, Ox Paper Tube and Core, Inc., and the Hanover High School Class of 2011. The school district is assisting by providing power to the site and helping with scoreboard installation. In addition, local organizations including the Hanover BPOE and McSherrystown Home Association made significant contributions and the baseball and field hockey teams raised funds on their own to contribute to this project, a press release stated.

The HABC continues to solicit donations from local businesses and organizations in order to raise the remaining funds necessary to purchase and install the baseball scoreboard before to its spring season. Anyone interested in making a contribution may contact Brian Frederick at 632-7173 or email the HPSD Athletic Director, Mr. Jeremy Flores at jflores@hpsd.k12.pa.us.
