York area swimming alumni excel in pool and out at the next level

The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently released its All-American and Scholar All-American teams and both the YAIAA and York YMCA were well represented.

Starting in Division I where Spring Grove grad Hali Flickinger (left), a former standout with the York Y, was named to the first team NCAA Scholar All-American list at the University of Georgia. Flickinger earned All-American honorable mention for her work in the pool for the Bulldogs.

Also in Division I, former Dallastown diver Leigh Waltz was honorable mention on the NCAA scholar list at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, the former York YMCA tandem of Julia Kucherich, a York Suburban grad swimming at Arkansas, and Sarah Dotzel, a York Catholic alum now at Notre Dame, made the academic honorable mention list.

In Division II, West York grad Bradley Strathmeyer (left) at West Chester, and Dallastown alum Julie Brown at Shippensburg made first team All-American in BOTH in the pool and with the books. Strathmeyer posed the third best time in the nation in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle events, while Brown's top time in the 50 free was eighth best in the country.

Division II honorable mention scholars include Morgan Oberlander, a Dallastown grad at Clarion, and Tara Yohe, a York Catholic grad at Shippensburg.

Great work swimmers.
