Area softball players earn all-state nods


The PIAA All-State softball teams were released this week and the YAIAA is well represented as usual, starting in Class AAAA, where Spring Grove outfielder Hayley Norton was named to the first team.

Making the AAAA second team was Sam Hartman, Amanda Jones and Kayla Merriman of Dallastown, New Oxford's Sara Groft, Central York's Taylor Rohrbaugh and Kelsey Wisner, along with Alexa Taylor of Red Lion. The AAAA honorable mention nominees are: Ally Dziwis, Jordyn Miller and Kyla Caruso from Central, Dani Aikins and Cheyenne Fulcher of York County Tech, Red Lion's Katie Shultz, plus Kelsey Collins of Dallastown.

The area's only Class AAA first teamer is Northern York's Courtney Keefer, but Eastern York's Mariah Miller and Lauren Reichard were second team selections, as were Kayla Michael of West York and Jackie Faircloth of Bermudian Springs. Class AAA honorable mentions were the Kennard-Dale battery of Julia D'Arrigo and Sara Driggers.

In Class AA, Delone Catholic's Deanna Laughman received a first team nod. Laughman's teammates Cassie Rickrode and Shelbee Holcomb were second team nominees, as was Carrie Fix of York Catholic. Hanover's Sara Durika was a AA honorable mention choice.
