Spring Grove's David Shaw committed to Maryland

Spring Grove's soon-to-be senior standout lineman David Shaw has committed to the University of Maryland, Rockets coach Russ Stoner confirmed late Sunday night.

Shaw, who has been pursued by the Terrapins since at least last fall, will be the third among his brothers to play Division I college football. John and Jim Shaw played for Penn State through the 2006 season. Jim started at Rice before transferring to the Nittany Lions for his junior and senior years, while John played his entire collegiate career at PSU. Their father, James Shaw, played college football for Colgate.

Instead of heading north to State College, David will travel just 80 miles south to play for a fellow York County native and Susquehannock graduate, Randy Edsall.

An All-YAIAA performer, Shaw is expected to play on the defensive line at Maryland.
