West York's Groff suffered concussion

A little less than 5 minutes remained in Thursday's YAIAA boys' lacrosse final when West York junior defender Austin Groff tumbled to the ground. Groff remained motionless on the turf at Susquehannock for a few minutes and was then carted to his parents' car.

His mother Lisa Groff confirmed Saturday that her son was diagnosed with a mild concussion after being taken to York Hospital. Before he was discharged around midnight, about 20 of his teammates came to check in, Lisa Groff said. That contingent included his defensive backfield running mate Steven Wilson, coach Rodney Tamblin and others.

"I started getting texts from parents and teammates if they could come see him," Lisa Groff said. "It was an emotional time They brought his medal to him."

She said Austin returned to school for a few hours during the later portion Friday. He plans to return to school Monday but with "restricted activities," she said. His high school lacrosse season is over, however.

The Bulldogs (17-2), who won the YAIAA Division II title before a 13-12 loss to Central York in that title game, will play host to Kennard-Dale in a District 3 first-round game Tuesday.
