YAIAA girls' Athlete of the Week: March 4 to March 9

It's time for the next-to-last polls of the winter season, and in honor of what we consider a very impressive performance, we are doing things a bit different this week.

There is no boys' poll to vote in this week; just the girls.

It's breaking with tradition but there just isn't any way around it: Kennard-Dale wrestler Chance Marstelleris the boys' Athlete of the Week after another impressive win in a long list of victories.

Consider this: He just won his third consecutive state gold medal. He not only won it -- he dominated it, 17-5. He is UNDEFEATEDin his high school career at 125-0. People use words like "rare" and "different level" to describe him.

So instead, next week's final boys' winter poll will span two weeks worth of performances. That way we can still recognize the rest of the great performances, like Dallastown's Rodney Sunday winning his 100th bout or Delone's Brett Smith scoring 20 pointsin the state tournament.

The girls' poll is open until 5 p.m. Monday, and the winner will be announced on Twitter and in Tuesday's Daily Record.
