Your take: PIAA board discusses heat at football camps

The PIAA Board of Directors is discussing how to combat heat-related illness at football camps, and there's a chance the proposal would affect when camps can start.

Last season, the first day football teams were allowed to practice was Aug. 13, right in the dog days of summer, so to speak.

The PIAA is looking at ways to let athletes get used to working out in the heat safely. One solution is to ban full-pad workouts for the first few days of practice, which spurred a suggestion of holding heat acclimatization practices a few days before the current official start of practice.

What do you think about the debate? Should the PIAA open practices a few days early so players can get used to the heat? Or should the start date remain the same? Share your thoughts in the comments.
