Pat Conrad resigns as Red Lion football coach

Pat Conrad will not return for a 10th season as football coach at Red Lion. Athletic director Arnold Fritzius said Wednesday morning he received Conrad's letter of resignation earlier this week.

Conrad, who teaches social studies at the high school, could not be reached for comment in the afternoon. Fritzius said Conrad's resignation will be processed at Red Lion's next school board meeting on Feb. 7. However, the athletic director also said he's already received two inquiries about the position.

"We're looking for somebody who's going to pick up this program from where we are now, which we think is a good place," Fritzius said. "We want someone with quality coaching experience."

Red Lion is coming off a 1-9 season. Conrad was 45-53 in nine years as the school's football coach, including a District 3 Class AAAA playoff run in 2010. That year the Lions advanced to the district championship game during a 10-4 season.
