Chance Marsteller wins 170-pound title at Powerade wrestling tournament
Kennard-Dale junior Chance Marsteller won the 170-pound title Saturday at the 2012 Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan High School in Pittsburgh.
The match pitted two of the nation's top 170-pounders against each other and lived up to the hype. Marsteller beat Canon-McMillan senior Cody Wiercioch, 3-2, in overtime. You can watch the entire match at flowrestling.org.
Marsteller is a two-time PIAA Class AAA state champion who has never lost a regular season match. He won the 152-pound title in 2011 and the 160-pound title last winter. Wiercioch owns two state titles: A 152-pound Class AA crown from 2010 and a 170-pound Class AAA championship from March 2012. Marsteller has moved up to the 170-pound class this year, which theoretically could make for an intriguing rematch in this year's PIAA tournament.
Intermat ranks Marsteller as the No. 1 170-pounder in the country, with Wiercioch on his heels at No. 2.
Marsteller won the 152-pound title of the same tournament last year.
