YAIAA Girls' Basketball Power Rankings: Dec. 24

(Note: Having not seen every team yet, this initial batch of rankings comes from what I have seen, conversations and judgment.)

Happy Holidays, everyone. Well there's no time to waste, so here are our first power rankings of the season. The next set of rankings probably will not come out until the first week of January.

1. Dallastown (6-1):The Wildcats’ win against Red Lion has them worthy of this spot. One word has me scratching my head in reference to that win: “Upset.” Was Dallastown’s win against the Lions really that? It’s so early in the season, and we’re still finding out a lot about these teams. Right now, I’m calling it a strong win for a good team.

2. West York (5-0): Off to a 3-0 start in their move to Division I, that’s the record I will be paying closer attention to -- after the D-II champs moved up.

3. Red Lion (5-1): Two games come to mind right now when thinking about the Lions. One is the loss to Dallastown and the other is the close win against Susquehannock. Such is the case for a winning program; all of "scares" and losses jump out.

4. Delone Catholic (5-1): This isn't the first time a team has had to replace an irreplaceable player, as is the case with Sierra Moore, but come out in impressive fashion. So far it's taken a 5-0 Gettysburg team to beat the Squirettes.

5. York Catholic (4-1): I wouldn't have thought there would be temptation to rank Delone above the Irish this early in the season, but Delone gets the higher nod for style points -- most notably the Squirettes' convincing win against Eastern York vs. the Irish's close win against the Golden Knights.

The best of the rest: 6. Dover (6-0), 7. Susquehannock (6-1), 8. Kennard-Dale (6-1), 9. Eastern York (3-3), 10. Biglerville (4-2).

Right now, it’s a tough call to pick between teams nine through 12. Eastern, Biglerville, Bermudian Springs and Spring Grove could be argued for spots in the top 10.

What do you think? I want to hear your thoughts (yes, definitely any criticism).
