Alex Shinsky and the Maryland men's soccer team could earn a berth in the College Cup -- NCAA soccer's version of the Final Four -- on Saturday when they host Louisville at 5 p.m. in an NCAA quarterfinal.
Shinsky, a former West York standout, has appeared in 18 games this season (two starts) for the No. 2 ranked Terrapins. The sophomore midfielder has tallied a pair of assists during the campaign and played 18 minutes during Maryland's 5-1 win over Coastal Carolina last weekend.
Maryland is making its fourth quarterfinal appearance in five seasons.
Meanwhile, former Dallastown soccer standout Jimmy Gante recently wrapped his fine college career at Washington and Jefferson University. The midfielder was a second-team President's Athletic Conference pick this season, notching a goal and three assists. During his 67-match career, Gante totaled nine goals and nine assists.
Gante scored one goal and assisted on the eventual game winner during his final collegiate game, a 4-0 victory over Bethany.
