Weekly Rewind (Sept. 19-25)

Another week is in the books. Now that we've officially reached autumn and September is drawing to a close, some teams are starting to distinguish themselves as contenders for a division title. But not everyone is that lucky. As we look back on this past week, sometimes it's easy to see which direction a team is headed. At other times, that's not as easy to do.

1. If you pegged William Penn to beat Northeastern in football Friday night, congrats. You're in the minority. The Bobcats, in the midst of a record start to the season, were the favorite against a Bearcats team that didn't look very good during the first three weeks.

But it was William Penn celebrating after a surprising 28-14 road win. The Bearcats benefited from seven turnovers for one of the more eye-opening wins of the season.

2. Biglerville put everyone else on notice that it is a true player in YAIAA Division III with an impressive 24-6 win over Littlestown on Friday.

Oakley Fissel rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns as the Canners avenged a loss to the Bolts that had been hanging over their heads for a year.

3. Chambersburg started the football season fast with three straight wins. But the Trojans had seen nothing like the team that came to town Friday night.

Defending District 3 and PIAA Class AAAA champion Central Dauphin took it to Chambersburg, 52-27, in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth game. The Rams held a 31-13 lead at halftime and put the Trojans away with a 21-point fourth quarter.

Things don't get any easier for Chambersburg this week with a trip to perennial power Cumberland Valley on tap.

4. Central York stayed in the thick of the YAIAA Division I boys’ soccer race Thursday afternoon with a big 2-0 win over host South Western.

Kyle Smith and Royce Clemens scored roughly four minutes apart in the second half to lift the Panthers (4-2 division), who are the thick of the Division I race with Dallastown (6-0) and South Western (4-2).

News and notes: South Western right-handed pitcher Parker Bean recently committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Liberty University. The Flames are an NCAA Division I program. ... Rod Frisco has everything you need to know about the goings-on with the PIAA in his notebook.
