York basketball officials president Patrick Gebhart named PIAA assistant executive director

Interesting note today from the nerve-center of Pennsylvania high school sports. The PIAA announced that Patrick Gebhart, the president of the York Chapter of Basketball Officials, has been hired as the organization's new assistant executive director. Gebhart replaces Dr. Robert Lombardi, who was recently named the PIAA's executive director.

From the PIAA release:

A PIAA registered sports official since 1988, Gebhart holds the position of President in the York Chapter of Basketball Officials. He also served on the Executive Committee prior to his election as President. In culminating his officiating career, Gebhart was selected to work the 2012 AAA PIAA Boys’ Basketball Championship Final. Gebhart’s professional background consists of a 30-year distinguished career with the Pennsylvania State Police. During his tenure with the State Police, Gebhart was promoted through several ranks, of which he was most recently named Captain in 2007. Gebhart distinguished himself among sixty applicants for the position of Assistant Executive Director. Through a thorough screening process, Gebhart was the final and unanimous choice among PIAA staff. “We are very pleased with our selection of Pat. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of our officials’ program and will be an asset to all officials as we continue to build our officials’ education program”, commented Dr. Robert A. Lombardi, PIAA Executive Director.

The release goes on to say Gebhart will oversee the officials department and serve as tournament director for the PIAA championships, among other tasks. Gebhart lives in McSherrystown.
