York Suburban coach Jamie Evans honors a senior in a special way

One point away from the District 3 Class AA boys volleyball championship York Suburban coach Jamie Evans sent senior Lucas DuMars into the match.

DuMars, more known for raining 3-pointers while coming off the bench for the Trojans basketball team, came out for volleyball for the first time this season at the urging of his friends on the team.

Evans wanted to reward DuMars for his dedication and attitude this season by letting him by on the floor when Suburban wrapped up its first district volleyball title.

"He came in and practiced with the JVs and not many seniors would do that," Evans said of DuMars. "I think he deserved it. It was a thank you to him."

Sophomore Jacob Kauffman left the floor when DuMars came in and didn't seem to mind, something else Evans likes about his squad.

"They support each other. They wanted him to come out all four years. I am glad he did," the coach said.

Ironically, DuMars is not a complete stranger to volleyball. His mom, Sue DuMars, has been the women's volleyball coach at York College for the past 15 seasons.
