Weekly Rewind

This week, there were more divisions clinched in the YAIAA, an area football coaching change and a huge lacrosse win for a blossoming program. Join us as we take a look back at the week that was in area high school sports.

1. Why not start things off with this one? Delone Catholic and York County Tech played a softball game that featured 42 runs, 36 hits, 23 walks and 17 errors Monday. Delone won, by the way, 26-16, to wrap up the YAIAA Division IV title.

2. Trevor Zero made 15 second-half saves to help Dallastown beat previously undefeated perennial power Hershey in boys’ lacrosse Friday. The Wildcats improved to 16-1 with the victory.

3. The Eastern York girls' soccer team blanked Fairfield to win its fourth straight YAIAA Division III crown Tuesday. Lauren Himes scored the game's only goal as the Golden Knights avenged an earlier loss to Fairfield.

4. Freshmen played a key role Tuesday for the Central York softball team as the Panthers wrapped up the Division I title with an 11-3 win vs. Dallastown.

5. Dallastown moved a little closer to the YAIAA Division I baseball title with its 5-0 win over Spring Grove and ace Trevor Troxel on Thursday. The Wildcats lead the Rockets by one game with one to play.

6. Central York’s success in boys’ volleyball has made most teams look at a game against the Panthers as a way to find out where they stand. That’s why Chambersburg scheduled Central York. After a 3-0 win Thursday in Franklin County, the Trojans must be happy with where they’re at.

7. Matt Heiser experienced success during his career as a head football coach at Boiling Springs. The Bubblers were annual contenders for a District 3 Class AA playoff spot. Gettysburg is hoping Heiser can turn the Warriors into perennial 3-AAA contenders. The school board approved him as the new coach Monday night.

8. The annual Hershey Boosters Tournament is one of the marquee high school baseball showcases in the area. South Western once again took part in the event that included Mid-Penn perennial powers Hershey and Cumberland Valley and District 6 entry State College. In the 8th annual version of the tourney, South Western held its own with a narrow 5-3 loss to CV followed by a nice 3-2 win over State High in the consolation. Hershey defended its turf with a 5-1 win over CV in the final.
