District 3 releases first basketball power rankings

I don't want to delve too deep into these, in large part because the season isn't even halfway over yet. There are also a few errors and inconsistencies to be found -- for example, the girls' rankings are only updated through Jan. 31.

Still, the first release of the District 3 basketball power rankings provides some good early-season fodder. So have at them here.

I'll post some thoughts after the jump.

- So far, the South Western boys' hot start has been rewarded. The Mustangs (10-0) are second in the Class AAAA rankings behind only Hershey. Central York (6), William Penn (8) and Dallastown (10) also made the top ten.

- A trio of YAIAA teams landed on top of the boys' Class AA rankings. York Catholic (5-2) landed at the No. 1 spot, followed by Delone Catholic (6-3) and defending District 3-AA champion Hanover.

- The New Hope boys are in the thick of the Class A rankings, earning the No. 3 spot thanks to a 7-3 record.

- Red Lion is the only girls team really in the picture in Class AAAA. The Lions currently sit at the No. 3 spot behind Reading and Wilson.

- The Dover girls' were slotted at No. 2 in the Class AAA rankings. But the Eagles' loss Wednesday, which was not included in this data, could cause them to slip.

- No surprise to see York Catholic back on top of the girls' Class AA rankings with a 8-1 record. Rivals Delone Catholic sit at No. 5.

So there you go. Keep in mind, all those rankings will no doubt change -- some of them radically -- as the year goes on.
