YAIAA girls' basketball power rankings, Dec. 14

Now for our first girls' power rankings of the season. Head here for our boys' rankings.

You can find our roundup from Wednesday's girls' hoops action here.

1. Red Lion -- It's hard to ignore what the Lions have done so far. First, they steamrolled to the Conestoga Valley Tip-Off Tournament title, beating Manheim Township and Lower Dauphin by a combined 66 points. They followed that up Wednesday with a 45-33 win against Spring Grove. The frontcourt duo of Erica Maciejewski and Jen Horvatinovic both finished in double figures scoring again -- something we'll probably see a lot of this season.

2. Delone Catholic -- So far, so good for Sierra Moore and co. Although to be fair, the Squirettes have only played one game so far, a 76-54 win against Bishop McDevitt. Moore poured in 24 that game, but she got some help, too. Players like Maria Photiades and Courtney McMaster both have an added year of experience, and that should bode well going forward. If the Squirettes' secondary scoring options can chip in points consistently, this is going to be one tough team to stop.

3. York Catholic -- The Irish (3-0) may have a different look, with four-year standout Kady Schrann having moved on to Vanderbilt. But through three games, York Catholic has showed it still has plenty of firepower. Kevin Bankos' team sandwiched a pair of relatively routine wins around a narrow victory against Trinity. Morgan Klunk has reached double-digits in all three games so far, and Rachel Forjan and Karli McFatridge appear to have picked up where they left off last season.

4. Dover -- This Eagles team is worth watching, both now and in the future. It has a core of impressive underclassmen -- led by sophomore Alayah Hall -- a couple key seniors. Dover remains unbeaten after a 51-41 victory against South Western on Wednesday. The Eagles certainly look like contenders in a muddled Division II race. Can they overtake defending division champ Spring Grove, though?

5. Kennard-Dale -- Speaking of Division II, the Rams (3-0) are building their case to be considered a top team. Is there a better player in the YAIAA -- other than Sierra Moore -- than Kennard-Dale forward Sara Tarbert? The junior forward is averaging 22.6 points through three games, and she's gotten some help early on, as well. Kennard-Dale graduated a large group of seniors last season, but coach Jeff Stratmeyer and his staff has done a good job early on of getting this team to play cohesively.

In the hunt: Bermudian Springs (2-1), Eastern York (1-2), Northeastern (2-1), Susquehannock (2-1), West York (2-1)
