West York's Toomey wins "Mini Max" award

West York football standout Jerrin Toomey was honored recently as one of 60 Pennsylvania high school football players to earn a "Mini Max" award, presented by the Maxwell Football Club.

Maxwell Club President Ron Jaworski announced the 60 Pennsylvania winners, from schools in Districts 1, 3, 11 and 12. Players were nominated by their coaches throughout the season and were evaluated based on criteria including academics, football performance and community service.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound safety/receiver was a team captain during a senior season in which he racked up an incredible 122 tackles, en route to becoming the school’s all-time leader in that category. Toomey also snatched four interceptions, two of those coming in West York’s District 3 Class AAA playoff win over Northeastern.

On offense, Toomey was the favorite target of quarterback Kaden Hepler. He paced the Bulldogs in receptions (51), receiving yards (867) and receiving touchdowns (10).

The Mini Max Award recipients will be honored at a dinner on Jan. 19, 2012, at the Drexelbrook Catering Ballroom in Drexel Hill. The awards dinner is open to the public, and tickets are available on the Club's website www.maxwellfootballclub.org.

The Maxwell Football Club will select one player from the group as the winner of the Pennsylvania High School Player of the Year.
