Athlete Spotlight: Red Lion's Brooke Amandola


Red Lion senior Brooke Amandola ran cross country for the first time in 2010 and immediately found success.   Amandola, more known for her play for the Red Lion soccer team, came in sixth place at the YAIAA meet with a season best time of 19:55 and looks for continued success in 2011.

How is cross country going so far this season?

It is going pretty good, I am definitely pushing myself to the limit and am getting faster.

When is your first race?

This Saturday at Mt. St. Mary's

When did you start getting into cross county?

Last year as a junior.  I really liked the idea of long distance running and I thought I would be good with the endurance because I also play soccer.   I tried it and turns out I am pretty good

What was it like becoming an All-Star in your first year of running?

It surprised me.  Just to be an All-Star is great your first year.  I realized I have potential and I can also grow in that potential

What is the fastest cross country you have had in a race?

19:55 (3-mile)

How many miles do you run a week in the off-season to train?

Probably about 30-40 miles

What has been the highlight of your cross country career?

Just working with my team and pushing myself.

What is your favorite night before a race meal?

I definitely hit the carbs.  I go to Texas Roadhouse and I eat prime rib and baked potato.

What is one junk food you cannot live without?

Chocolate chip cookies

What is your favorite movie?

I love the Notebook

What is your favorite tv show?

I love Ellen Degeneres

What is one song you listen to before a race that gets you pumped up?

Anything from Jessie J.

If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would want to go to Australia I think

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Stick to my dreams and don't give up
