Athlete Spotlight: Dallastown's Andy Murray


As a junior, Dallastown's Andy Murray finished the season with fifteen goals and three assists.

How did you get started playing soccer?

When I am was five, my dad had me playing up at the park.  I remember that I didn't know how to stay in the lines.   I would dribble out of bounds all the time and hide behind the parents.

When did you realize that soccer was a sport that you wanted to get serious about?

Once I started playing club for FC York.  We were practicing every day of the week and having games both Saturday and Sunday, and it never seemed like a chore.  I just loved doing it.   I knew then that soccer was the sport that I would focus on in high school and college.

What position do you play?

Center mid

What is it about soccer that you love?

It is really easy to channel your creativity in soccer.  Probably more so than in any other sport.  I just have so much fun when I am playing.

What has been the highlight of your career?

Probably winning the district championship last year against Central Dauphin.

Where are you looking to continue your soccer career at next year?

I am talking to the coach up at Duquense.  The coach at York also said they were going to recruit me.

What is your favorite meal the night before a big game?

Steak and mashed potatoes.  It doesn't get much better than that.

What is one snack food you cannot live without?

Oreos

What is one song you listen to right before a game to pump you up?

Headstrong by Trapt

What is your favorite tv show?

The Office

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Gladiator

If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Mexico

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
